It's only month four ... is this my limit?
April Summary Just kidding. Kind of. Long story short, I didn't manage to complete my goals of linearting a chapter this month. In fact, I barely linearted any pages at all. It's so embarrassing I don't even want to show my progress so far. It was a bit of a combination of the fact that I needed to get a lot of assignments done, the fact that the pages this month required a lot of complex poses and perspectives ... and maybe a bit of burnout. I didn't try to push myself to lineart this month, and instead tried to refuel my creative juices with doing a LOT of practice art to try and get back into the groove. Check out all the art I did this month:
Haha, impressive, right? With the amount of art I managed to produce this month despite the lack of project progress - the issue is really not a matter of art block than it is needing a change of pace every now and then. It was fun to be able to just produce regular practice art pieces without concerning myself with composition, backgrounds, etc. Just draw and enjoy.
So that's the most important thing I learnt this month. Not forcing yourself to draw that one thing you don't want to do, and let yourself free to draw other things ... is a lot more productive than stubbornly refusing to do anything else until that one thing is done. Because ultimately, you likely won't do it anyway. Just take that break.
May Goals Last month, I mentioned exams coming up. Well, I found out that's not really true. My exams will all be at the end of this year, but I will still need to work on assignments and study. That being said though, the lack of mid year stress does remove the major obstacle to publishing my webcomic in June-July. I've already reached that 6 month mark of backlog already, so there's really no need to continue delaying the publish date. Furthermore, I hope that with the webcomic being published, and the backlog starting to get eaten up ... it would give me more motivation and incentive to not let the readers down. In May, I've taken a whopping 2 weeks off from work. More so because of a surgery, but I thought I may as well use the time to give myself a break. Furthermore, I should have one of my assignments submitted by the time I go on leave, so my goal this month is to work very hard on my webcomic. Next month, I aim to complete Chapter 5 in its entirety. Storyboard Chapter 6, and perhaps even start altering the previous page formats to vertical length. As usual, I also aim to have at least an illustration done this month as well.
Let's hope I reach my goals next month! See you then! Ciao!
