Happy Chinese New Year! Since I have more specific goals this year from my new years resolution, I'm going to be doing my updates a little bit differently from now on to hold all aspects of my goals accountable. Without further ado, let's get started with this belated update!
January Summary
Webcomic Goals
Unfortunately this month, I wasn't able to complete the main goal I had planned for myself, that is, to complete the new chapter 2 in all it's entirety. I overestimated my ability to complete it with the time, the dwindling motivation I had and all the other goals I was working on. Fortunately, I am a bit over the halfway point and I'm confident I'll be able to complete it this coming month!
Turns out that converting my webcomic pages into vertical scroll format is a lot more time consuming than I gave it credit for. It will take an entire day out of my week to convert the pages into one episode. Not only do I need to take apart the panels, sometimes I will need to draw in gaps that's occurred, or even redraw certain panels entirely to make it more cinematic in the episodic format. On top of all that, I have to re-typeset the entire comic. Although, this is in part because I had such poor typesetting skills in the beginning, and I also used a different font and process to typeset. Hopefully the typesetting part of the process will be less tedious as I improve in consistency over the chapters!
That being said, the benefits in this conversion process is that it allows me to make final edits and changes to the story's pace and dialogue. It serves as the final gate of my review process, and I find the story is greatly enhanced than if I had left it as the first edit. Despite the seemingly counter-productive method I've used, I personally prefer the multiple benefits of this dual process as opposed to choosing one process over the other. The benefits and cons of each process and the one I've chosen is something I may address in either a blog post or video someday, if the demand arises. I would like to say let me know in the comments below, but I have turned this feature off, HAH.
The big announcement to my webcomic this month is that I have finally settled on a clear debut date! Are you ready? *drumrolls* The date is...
✦ 22/02/2022 ✦
Ah yes, the perfect palindrome. It also falls on a Tuesday, which technically makes it a Two'sday. Get it? Hahaha --
It should come as no surprise that I will be very busy this month. Ready or not, I'm debuting.
Illustration Goals
Thankfully, I managed to complete two illustrations this month! One of them being an artwork I had been procrastinating on for all of last year.
Although I had hoped to have drawn some original illustrations, the only one I have pending at the moment is...a big project for sure. I am not surprised I did not manage to complete it. That will be a goal for this next month for sure!
Merchandise Goals
These goals will be put on hold until further notice since there is a lot for me to do, with my webcomic debut coming up! Once my webcomic has debuted and my schedule stabilized, I will begin on these goals at an estimated mid-year time period!
Social Media Goals
Thanks to the power of scheduled uploading, I was able to remain relatively consistent in the beginning of the year. I aim to be more active on social media this year to get my webcomic out there! I will need to put more work into remaining consistent for the entire month, however.
I finally bit the bullet and started streaming again this year ! At the beginning of January, I managed to complete what was left of the rigging of my model, and began streaming with this snazzy new setup! I'm excited to keep streaming with this setup, although I will need to continue to make some final tweaks and changes on the model.
February Goals
February is debut month, whether I feel ready or not. In preparation for this, all my efforts will be focused on making sure I'm as prepared as I can for it's release! Enough excuses, no more delaying!
Webcomic Goals
Complete chapter 2, as well as converting chapter 1 into episodic format before the debut date so I have a buffer of episodes to upload. If there is time, ideally finish shading chapter 6 (I stopped halfway but I really shouldnt--!)
Illustration Goals
All I want is for that one illustration project to be done...all I will say is, I currently have a burning vengeance against steam trains.
Social Media Goals
My main goal is to schedule the countdown as well as the promotional event for my webcomic's debut! I should be scheduling the first one soon, but I haven't gotten it done yet...! My next goal is to revamp the Arcanus Crucis section of this website once I've debuted the comic. I plan to have a section dedicated to posting my webcomic pages here!
Alright, enough blogging, more working! See you next update! Ciao!
