Let's cut to the chase. Spoiler alert, I did not complete a single webcomic goal this month. With that out of the way, let's just have a general update this time, and talk about what I did do this month.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what I did this month. I've been so busy with my profession and assignments that I don't think I had much time on my days off to draw. The only goal I really completed from last month's set goals were really just illustration work.
I am quite satisfied with my accomplishment for this illustration. Firstly, it only took me two nights of on and off work. Once again, a huge improvement from when I used to take months to finish an illustration. Secondly, I managed to accomplish my goal in using shadows and lighting to convey mood and tone of the illustration. For the longest time, I've always wanted to draw an illustration of these two characters, but it was always difficult to think of an idea for them. Because while they are inseparable partners in battles and can always count on each other to have their backs ... outside of missions, they rarely hang out. They belong in different social worlds after all. Cher the loner and Frey the social butterfly.
I'm really happy with this piece because this may be the first illustration that I've done which actually told a story, and portrayed the mood and feelings of the characters in a way that incites emotion. I had a lot of fun drawing it, and it motivates me to work on their story arc when it comes to it. Side note: I realised how much I loved Cher in a ponytail haha.
This was another illustration I was working on this month which I didn't end up finishing on time. I thought I would also be able to have this done in a couple of days, but the piece is proving to be more difficult than I predicted. There's been lots of struggles with the anatomy, perspective, background ... and now colouring ... My aim for this piece is to improve my colouring and background work such that it doesn't look amateur, flat, or stiff. Let's hope I accomplish that goal!
The third thing I was working on is a new title logo for my webcomic. I've been growing discontent with my current logo. It just seems amateur and dull. I'm really happy with this new logo design, it looks a lot more sleek, professional, and fantasy-like! This is just a draft, as I am still working on the final logo and the variations, but it will more or less look like this. I can't wait to start using it!
Finally, for the next week I will be working on making some changes to my site. Namely, my gallery and commissions page will have a major overhaul to look more professional, with my best works properly displayed and not just thrown together. There will be new banners, and new options available! Look forward to it!
I won't be setting any goals for the next month. That's because I won't be having much time in August ... or even the following months for that matter, to be drawing with the increased workload from my profession, extra commitments in my day off schedule, and ... study time ...
I'll still draw when I can, but there likely won't be anymore goals moving forward, at least for the next few months. Regardless, I will still continue updating the blog posts because there will surely be art produced in my spare time. Just, perhaps, not completed webcomic chapters given my record recently.
That's it from me this month. Let's see how I survive the next. Ciao!
