I wish to come bearing good news, unfortunately, it seems to be a trend that my productivity no longer adhere to my plans and expectations.
My goals last month were: 1. Chapter 5 coloured. 2. New Chapter 2 storyboarded. 3. Chapter 6 linearted. 4. Monthly illustration. 5. Persona model shading. In hindsight, it was probably a bit too optimistic. Regardless, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is, I have barely made a dent since my last progress with chapter 5. The flats are all complete now, but shading and bg wise, I barely made any progress. Towards the last two weeks, I have tried, to the best of my abilities, to complete the lineart of chapter 6. Unfortunately, lineart surely is the process that takes up most of my time.
In an attempt to redeem myself for my embarrassing shortcomings however, I did manage to push myself to complete the storyboard for the new C2 in its entirety.
In order to save for time however, this process has not yet been edited and reviewed, so that will be a job for next
month.
With the comic goal review out of the way, I further regret to inform that a similar disappointing result came of my monthly illustration plans. Unfortunately, the only illustration I got out this month was a simple fullbody practice piece. Hardly an illustration project, but I suppose it's still better than nothing.
Here is where the good news start. My last goal for the month was simply to complete shading the persona model I started last month. Not only did I finish shading the model, but I also successfully learnt rigging within the first two weeks of this month, and have now acquired a new skillset under my belt. Honestly, this was really where all my time went into this month. It was a lot of brainwork, frustrations, and mental pain. But thanks to sheer willpower, and the aid of the internet, I managed to teach myself a new skill.
Isn't my persona adorable? Unfortunately, this website does not allow me to insert my gif preview I had made since it's too large, so [HERE] is a link to it instead!
There is still much to do, and much to learn. I had to take a lot of breaks to save myself the mental torment. Just today, I finally managed to troubleshoot a problem that made me give up two weeks ago in order to create this preview. It's not completely finished and refined to the point where I will use it, but it's finished enough for my satisfaction where I can leave it for the time being. The bulk of the work has been done anyway. Somehow, the most difficult skills to learn, are also the most satisfying to enjoy at the end.
It will be July next month. I hope to start preparing for my academic registration exams. As I said last month, I am no longer aiming to debut my webcomic mid year considering my situation. It also means that I will no longer be aiming to push myself to complete one chapter per month. Therefore, as long as I complete C5, C6, and C2 before November, that will conclude the end of the main course of pre-debut journey.
My goals for the next month will simply be to complete the lineart of C7, the shading for C5, and to refine C2's storyboard. Ideally, a detailed illustration for the month would be good too.
Lets hope the next month brings better results. See you then! Ciao!
